Speaking on "Fox News Sunday" this morning, Kansas Republican Bob Dole railed against his party's obstructionism, creating the perfect metaphor through which to do so: the GOP as a decrepit structure in need of an overhaul.
Per The Washington Post:
The Republican Party has changed so drastically in recent years, the current GOP wouldn’t welcome the likes of Ronald Reagan, former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole said Sunday.
The current GOP ought to be “closed for repairs” because it lacks a vision and is unable to strike deals with Democrats, Dole said.
[...]
Dole said his party needs stronger leadership. “Somebody has to stand up and say, ‘We’re not going to do this,’” he said.
Indeed, Dole's view is consistent with those expressed by nearly half of self-described Republicans in an April poll conducted by
ABC News/Washington Post. In that poll, almost 50 percent of Republicans described their party as "out of touch" with what most Americans care about and need.
Or, to put it another way: the GOP needs to be condemned and rebuilt from the ground up.
